Topical Antibiotics for Acne

Erythromycin and clindamycin are the most frequently prescribed topical antibiotics. They maybe prescribed by themselves or come with benzoyl peroxide or zinc. They come in the form of solutions, gels, creams, lotions, and wipes. They can be water based, alcohols based, oil-free, or oil-in-water mixtures. Side effects associated with topical antibiotics are stinging, burning, dryness, contact dermatitis, peeling, itching, and redness.
