Electrocautery for Acne
Electrocautery is an untypical procedure for treating acne. The procedure is performed with the use of a needle or a surgical knife that is able to pass electrical current. The needle or the surgical knife becomes red hot or white when electrical current passed through it and when applied to an acne lesion, it exfoliates the skin and kills the bacteria. It can also be used to open up a whitehead and remove its content. However, there is a risk of scarring.
Normally, electrocautery is used to destroy abnormal tissue and seal blood vessels. This allows doctors to perform bloodless incisions during surgery.
