Most Acne is Genetic
If you parents had acne, you are more likely to get acne than someone whose parents never had acne. The real cause of acne is not known but genetics do play a part in determining who gets acne. At the start of puberty the secretions of androgens (or sex hormones) within the body increase. These hormones lead to the increase in the production of an oily substance that is found on the face. This substance, called sebum, is a great source of food for the bacteria that causes acne,
Propionibacterium acnes. Sebum production is higher in people that have acne. How the body handles sex hormones is found to be hereditary.
